Why we should have able to get more than one offspec.
Since my Death Knight became primarily a tank I have had to come to terms with being asked to DPS most of the times for our raids. I don’t have a problem with this seeing as our main tanks are just that, main spec tanks that prefer to tank rather than DPS. Now, I have always been DPS so being asked to switch is really not an issue for me.
Having said that I started thinking about Death Knights and their unique position as being capable of massive AoE damage or massive single target damage. Right now my DPS offspec is Unholy, which is great for trash and heroics, but is very lacking for raid bosses. Since the unholy spec highly relies on doing damage to more than one target, our DPS output takes a steep dive once we encounter a raid boss. On the reverse side, Blood (or in very very very rare cases Frost) is the better spec for doing great single target damage in raids. Don’t get me wrong, as Unholy we can still go bat-shit crazy, but it leaves us with an empty feeling knowing we could do so much more if we were allowed to have an extra spec to switch to.
Now for those DK’s that don’t tank this is an easy enough solution since they can just nab 2 DPS specs as they see fit, but for those of us that tank, having the third spec option would help greatly.

I agree completely, this problem is compounded by all the hybrids who often have 3-4 viable specs.
I doubt we’ll ever see a 3rd spec option but it would be nice. Even some of the pure DPS classes have 3 viable options if you throw in PvP.

Not sure I need or want to see a third spec option myself. Would it be useful on my dk? Yeah, I could add and try to learn blood dps but overall it would be more of a pain in the butt.

My DK is specced Blood (I had my other one specced Unholy for the longest time). My Blood specced DK got better gear faster than my Unholy one and I simply love it when we get to boss fights where I can mostly wail on the boss the whole time. LOVEIT. None of my toons have dual spec, simply because I love healing on my pally and DPSing on my DK and I hate tanking and…I’m happy the way I have things now.
But for some peeps, I can see having a third spec as useful. Like priests for instance. Being able to pewpew as shadow, heal like maniacs as holy or mitigate damage as disc would be useful for some people, I imagine.

I would pay an honor cap worth of honor to have a PVP spec that was only available in BGs.
My second spec tends to get played with so much, I would also kill to have a “try out spec” that resets every time I log out.

I wouldn’t mind having additional specs available for certain classes. Hybrids have a special need for the extra slots so that they can fill their many roles, but pure dps not so much. Hunters for instance, are likely to be BM and one other without any need to go for the third.
I think it’s another thing that Bliz could add for us to more fully enjoy the whole deal, but I don’t see it happening any time soon.
But for the record, I would love to be able to rock my Frost Tank spec, switch over to my Unholy DPS, and then pick up the boss in Blood Tank. There’s a lot of potential in it, but I don’t think Bliz will buy into it.
